Radical Fluid
Zapped, conversation tapped, zinnias sting and dahlias flap wind blows a frozen stance
Quick glance, flicker of the gaze lost in thought caught in a maze words getting heavy, like thick honey glaze Chaotic sprinkle bring it on, a proper twinkle when stars align more than once.
Brutal, rugged, far too raw bruised apple, minor flaw
Pick apart the salad, spinach on the side let the insults slide bitter lemon, avec truth confide
Distaste react with haste put the stock, excess baste caked over, a rude waste poison words and the soup’s laced
Main course, of rolled tabacco puff, puff, pass abrupt staccato.
Egos flare like a lions mane boundaries crossed, wrong lane; guilt whispers scales tip to the core heart reaches out but felines roar.
Acatenango, Guatemala, March 2018

I enjoyed the restless rhythm of this piece. It feels almost like spoken-word jazz, where images tumble into one another and language leads the movement. There’s a playful intensity here that keeps the poem alive from beginning to end.
I really liked this, the rhythm and rhyme, choice of words too, which add to a sense of anger and lend it an intense burn. Fabulous stuff.
